So after I found myself staying up until 6:00 am every day for the past 2 months to watch a live internet stream of professional gamers battle against each other in the tense strategical game of Starcraft I came to a conclusion. I have figured out that I was indeed a Starcraft Junkie. My day would not begin until 4 or 5 pm just in time for dinner. After Dinner, or my breakfast, I would log onto my computer and play 10 or so games of competitive Starcraft. Afterwards, I would read Starcraft forums, and watch replays of players who are better than me. Then starting at 2:30 in the morning, I sit back, put some food in the microwave and load up the stream to watch players such as Lee Jae Dong and others compete for thousands of dollars in the game, you guessed it, Starcraft. Ever since I was a child, maybe 7 or 8 years old I have been obsessed with the game. Of course I have been obsessed with many things, varying from Baseball, to Soccer, to Fencing, Chess, Tennis, Swimming, and Poker, it is obvious I have a very addictive personality. Once I get into something, I am entirely indulged in it. My life revolves around it, and I don’t quit until I am the best. In Baseball, I played every season until my team came 1st in the little leagues. In Soccer, I played every season until my all-star team won with me being the deciding factor of the game. In Fencing, I played until I became the best in my class. In Chess, I didn’t quit until I was the best of my age, in the surrounding ten schools. Swimming, I didn’t quit until I won a Most Valuable Player Award for my backstroke. I recently have been getting into Poker, and I see no end come soon, until I win some major event such as the WSOP, EPT, or become a $5/$10 regular. Finally, the game that has been with my throughout all of these changes, the game that I would spend over 10 hours a day testing my deceptive, mechanics, psychology and patience. I have succeeded to be considered within the top few players in the country according to the International Cyber Cup, World Cyber Games, and many others. I have not been able to be considered the best of anything other than my school. And I guess that is why I continue to play. I joined Revoltados eSports two years ago by Filipe “SoulReaper” Costa, in a public forum on the now deceased Pro Gamers Tour. I joined with a record of 25-31, proving I was nowhere near one of the best. Revoltados eSports was a losing team in the lowest division in the World Game Tour Clan League. They were nonexistent in the Brood War Clan League, and the team players, would join one day, and leave the next. I however figured this was a team that could only improve. Soon within a few months, after Filipe “SoulReaper” Costa had left to join the Portuguese Military, Nuno “TrAiNeE” Nobrega had appointed be as the leader of the Starcraft Division. With Nuno’s help, we would find promising players who would help build the team. We found two polish players, TomaZZZZ and SiSiZZZ, a dual zerg team who had also the same view points on Revoltados, this is a team that could truly become something someday. We met a Protoss player, “Stoneman” who, at the time was an amazing player to us. On PGT he had a C rank average, and we assumed he was good enough to be a pro gamer. He enjoyed Revoltados and he was always dependable. Then, a Chilean Player came upon me, ShaK, who was ready for something new. He used to be in the American team 88, but after their death, he was eagerto join Revoltados as a chance to prove his worth and shine some light on himself. After some practice games, it was an honor to welcome him to the family With our newly formed team, Me, SiSiZZZ, TomaZZZ, and Stoneman set off in the World Game Tour to prove our worth. We didn’t advance that season, not until we met another Polish Player, invited by SiSiZZZ entitled Keisim. KeiSim was a great player who was even ranked higher than Stoneman! He was a C+ rank player and was almost a guaranteed win in our eyes in any clan war. We faced teams such as Lyra and we would not even get a single win out of it. Finally, we did advance to the third division, where the team received its first prize from Revoltados, a gift for showing that it is possible to get good and prove people against it. In Division 3d, Revoltados I had met another player on a private Korean server who wasn’t actually Korean. Instead, Zach “YueY” Duncan lived only a few states away from me, and he was a very energetic player. Unfortunately, he had manner issues with our beloved SiSiZZZ and the argument between the two erupted midway through the season, and Revoltados Brood War was no more. Stoneman had given up, Keisim had left, YueY was gone, SiSiZZZ and TomaZZZ decided to leave and go back to their team ZZZ. However, ShaK continued to stay with us, for he knew the journey would be tough, but it must lead somewhere! Back to Division 4. The Starcraft division had it tough going. We eventually get things back together with some new recruits, such as an American zerg player who went by the alias of nOGr. nOGr was a great player who was probably around my skill level. However, as well all know this pattern, Revoltados Brood War team once again failed. The players grew agitated, and me and Nuno were about to give up. With only me, Nuno, and ShaK, the team was in pain. We didn’t know what to do. Should we just give up on a team and go for single player coverage? We had no idea. Finally, an Argentinean team (can’t remember their old team name), decided to fill in the gap for Revoltados Brood War. We had skilled players, we had good organization, we had everything we could ever dream of! Revoltados was finally looking great. We flew threw Division 4 in the WGTCL. It was no problem for us. Division 3 here we come! However, once again, the players didn’t have loyalty the Revoltados. We found out many players were instead leaving to join a latin team, entitled LatinGamers. The team barely survived the cut to go back down to Division 4, but we no longer had players once again. In between seasons, Nuno, Myself, and Shak sat down one more time deciding what to do. With a year and a half gone by and not much improvement for the Revoltados name, we wondered if this would ever work out. We decided to give it just one more go, and if this fails, we will only support a few players to succeed in individual tournaments and leagues, and not worry about the administration of the clan leagues. So, we came upon the American team, NeX Union. I previously was a part of this team, when it first had started, and even became a leader in it three or so years prior to joining Revoltados. I hosted the website on my server, but found haste against the team, and left. It truly is a small world, when I had been a member of two teams prior to Revoltados, the first being Colossal Chaos, as I went by the aka of cc_Moon, and our very own Jusun “JuJuZerg” Park was known as cc_Forever. However after the team Colossal Chaos had died, me and JuJuZerg had gone separate ways. Me and Nuno had met NeX-Chobo and NeX-November (cc_Forever) and talked things over with them. They agreed to join Revoltados, leaving NeX to dust. They were ready and willing to give it a shot. Me and Nuno welcomed them with signs of desperation. We were ready to throw in the towel and give up on the division once and for all. The team once again thrived, we grew better, and stronger. Our team took on lots of players who put people in the beginning of my joining the team to shame. Stoneman and Keisim no longer were amazing in our eyes, instead they would not even be welcomed to the team because the skill level has increased so much. Within just a few weeks, we got an opportunity to test our skill against the currently ranked 5th in the non-korean world team, Face 2 Face. We demolished the team with a 4 to 1 victory. We were ready and willing to prove what we can do. We completed the last World Game Tour Clan League in 2nd place, worthy of advancing to Division 2. This is by far the furthest we have ever gotten. Me and Nuno both are glad about our choice for the advancement of Revoltados since my joining. I was the first non-portuguese player to join the Starcraft division, and I will be the last to leave. The team has became a truly international sensation. We have skyrocketed in skill, popularity, coverage, and of course the horizon we are flying to is becoming even more amazing than I personally had ever thought possible. I would have been grateful to be a competing Division 3 team, and Division 2 is unthinkable. I will become jaw dropped, euphoric, and the biggest Revoltados Fan if we manage to advance to the top ten teams in the Foreign (nonkorean) world. So, as I think back, at my stay at Revoltados thus far, it truly has been an experience. I have made great friendships with many people, and my love for the game of Starcraft has only grown more every day. As I continue to watch the professional games in Korea, I have only realized, that to be fighting for tens of thousands of dollars in each tournament , I realize that Revoltados is not far away from this. After a lot of failed attempts, similar to searching for a perfect home, I have found one. The experience I have gained, is unmatchable with anything else in the world. It is a great place to be. If there is anything that I have learned from this, is that no matter what you dream of, it is always attainable. I used to think I would never be a great soccer player, but I did it. I used to think I could never compete in Starcraft against the best in the world, but I have done it. I have believed I would never find a team who also have the dream of being the one, but I have done it. I found the team, no, I found the family that only continues to amaze me each and every day. Revoltados is the place to be if you ever want to be in the Electronic Sports competitions, and as the saying goes, “There is no place like home”.
